THE HABSBURGS
12 years after the founding of the Arcyksiążęcy (Archduke) Brewery in Żywiec, it became the largest beer producer in Galicia. The excellent quality of the beer fully met the demands of consumers. People turned to the brewery to ask which beer was the Emperor’s favourite. The sales department quickly caught on to the idea, and the pale lager was given the brand name ‘Cesarskie’ (Emperor’s).
GALICIA
Until the 1880s, Żywiec beers were distributed mainly in Galicia. However, the market was systematically growing, expanding to other Polish territories, as well as Vienna, Budapest and Lviv.
INTERWAR PERIOD
It is a time of extraordinary development of the brewery. Żywiec beers are sold in the best pubs all over Poland. Porter or Ale z Żywiec can be bought from Krakow, through Lviv, to Gdynia.
WAR AND OCCUPATION
The brewery did not stop production even during the war. The German receivership of the brewery even kept the Polish beer recipes and continued the production of Polish beer. However, under a different brand.
1945-1989
Żywiec is one of the most recognizable brands of Polish beer in the world. The export and high quality of the beer were always prominent features of the Brewery, and so it remains to this day.
BREWERY
Not only the Museum is historical, but the Brewery itself, which has been continuously brewing beer for 160 years. Its long history is evoked by the malt roaster that has worked here since 1910 and the old brew-house from 1913.
